Manusia Pra-Aksara Indonesia walaupun masih hidup dalam keadaan yang masih primitif, akan tetapi mereka telah mengembangkan kebudayaan walau dalam tingkat yang rendah. Beberapa aspek kebudayaan yang berkembang itu antara lain aspek kepercayaan, aspek sosial dan budaya, ekonomi, dan teknologi. Pada bagian ini, kita akan belajar mengenai perkembangan aspek sosial budaya dan kepercayaan.

Sosial dan Budaya

Kehidupan Sosial

Manusia yang hidup selama masa pra-aksara biasanya hidup berkelompok dengan setiap kelompoknya beranggotakan 10 -15 orang. Mereka tinggal berpindah-pindah dari satu tempat ke tempat untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidupnya. Jika di satu daerah sumber pangannya telah habis mereka akan berpindah pada tempat lain yang masih menyediakan sumber pangan yang berlimpah.

Dalam kehidupannya yang masih primitif ini telah ada pembagian tgas kerja yang sederhana. Para Pria bertugas untuk berburu dan mengumpulkan makanan. Sementara para wanita biasanya menghabiskan waktunya dengan memelihara anak. Selain itu untuk setiap kelompok mereka biasanya memilih seseorang yang dituakan sebagai kepala kelompok

Kehidupan Budaya

Selain itu Goa-goa berfungsi sebagai tempat tinggal manusia di masa ini. Kemudian juga karena sebagian besar mereka bergantung pada berburu binatang untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidupnya. Maka para manusia purba telah menciptakan beberapa alat-alat yang masih sangat sederhana. Alat-alat itu berfungsi sebagai alat berburu, alat pemotong, alat penggeruk tanah, dll.

Alat-alat itu sendiri terdiri dari:

  • Kapak Perimbas, Kapak ini tidak bertangkai dan digunakan dengan cara menggenggam
  • Penetak, lebih besar dari kapak perimbas kapak penetak memiliki fungsi untuk membelah kayu, pohon, bambu, dll
  • Kapak Genggam, secara ukuran lebih kecil dari kapak perimbas dan penetak, belum diasah dan amat kasar.
  • Alat-alat dari Tulang, pisau, belati, mata tombak dan mata panah merupakan alat-alat yang berasal dari tulang binatang.
